Northgate's unusually beautiful golf course, designed by von Hagge, Smelek, and Baril was expanded to 27 holes in 1998. The aesthetics of the forest frame every hole, and von Hagge's tapestry of undulating, gracefully bermed fairways, water hazards, sand bunkers and tiered greens present memorable images of the purest beauty... from the first hole to the last.
Over the years, Northgate has developed a well-earned reputation as a course that demands a more strategic orientation to the game. As described in an issue of Golf - Houston Style, "...von Hagge has alternated the rhythm of play and created diverse challenges for all levels of golfers." Or, as longtime members might put it, "without the trees, water, sand, and berms, berms everywhere Northgate would still be challenging, but it wouldn't be Northgate."
